French Oak Flooring

Timeless French Oak, crafted for Australian homes

French Oak has long been admired for its natural beauty, refined grain structure and warm, character-rich tones. Now available through Hurford’s new French Oak Solid Flooring range, this premium timber brings a sense of classic grandeur to Australian homes, renovations and architectural projects.

Sourced from the Auvergne Rhône region in France, this oak is selected from an area renowned for producing some of the world’s most respected hardwood timber. Through Hurford’s dedicated operations in France, only carefully selected French Oak makes its way into this flooring range.

The result is a solid timber floor with rich natural variation, elegant grain, and colours that move from whispering straw and mellow oat through to golden honey and soft nut-brown undertones.

Features & Benefits

French Oak is specifically grown and harvested in France, and that origin matters. The combination of French forestry practices, climate and soil gives the timber its signature quality, tight grain and deeper natural undertones.

Unlike engineered flooring, solid French Oak is made from genuine timber throughout. It can be site sanded and finished to suit your design style, whether you prefer a natural clear coating, a warmer tone, or a custom stain.

French Oak is also known for accepting stains exceptionally well, making it a versatile choice for both classic and contemporary interiors.

French Oak Traditional Solid Flooring

French Oak Traditional Solid Flooring is a thicker 21mm solid timber option, offering the strength, feel and long-term value of a traditional timber floor. With 8mm above the tongue, it provides excellent refinishing potential over the life of the floor.

French Oak Solid Overlay can be installed over plywood, particleboard or concrete, depending on site conditions and preparation requirements.

Natural Colour and Character

French Oak solid flooring has a warm and elegant colour range, with natural variation that gives each floor its own character. The Provincial grade allows for a more organic appearance, adding texture, movement and personality to the finished floor.

Typical tones include:

  • Whispering straw
  • Mellow oat
  • Golden honey
  • Soft nut-brown undertones

Because the timber is supplied raw and unfinished, the final look can be tailored during the sanding and coating process. A clear coating will retain a natural oak appearance, while staining can create warmer, darker or more contemporary tones.
